Crescent roll/Cinnamon roll recipe

A sweet older lady gave me this recipe over a year ago. I forgot about it but found it in my recipe binder a couple of weeks ago. I tried it and these things are really yummy! I love baking bread, but these are just extra special!
So, since I just typed this recipe for my mother in law, I decided to copy and paste it here for my blogger friends. Hope you enjoy!

Crescent Rolls or Cinnamon rolls

Dissolve 1 package of yeast in 1 cup of very warm water, add 1/2 cup of sugar, let stand for 30 minutes.
Add 2 beaten eggs, 1 stick of margarine, 1 tsp. of salt, and 4 cups of flour.
Mix, let stand overnight or 6-7 hours. Cover with a damp cloth (or use a large bowl with a lid on it). DO NOT REFRIGERATE.
Next morning, divide into 3 parts. Roll each part in a circle, and spread with soft margarine. Cut into pie shape, 8 times. Roll up, starting with wide end. Place on greased baking pan. Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise 2 hours. Bake at 350* for 15 minutes, brush with margarine and bake 2 min. more. Mary Ellen (the lady who gave me the recipe) said she always doubles this recipe , because once you start making these they expect them.

For cinnamon rolls, spread the dough into a rectangle and spread soft margarine on them. Then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture, roll up and slice.

For cinnamon rolls, ice with powder sugar icing.

*May put into a large bowl with a lid and let raise overnight, Tupperware or plastic one.

Sounds really good, but...I think I'll wait and let you make it for me someday:) If it has more than 5 ingredients and takes more than 10 minutes to prepare, then it's out of my league!

Kim, I LOVE this recipe. This is the recipe that I have used for about 20 years now. Someone gave it to my sister when I was about 14, and since I had my own bread business, I used it then, have made it for campmeetings, GBS, etc. It's the best recipe I know of for homemade rolls! So light and fluffy! This is the recipe that I was talking about when I said on my blog, "I have a roll recipe that I like better, but when I want rolls NOW, I make this quick one." =D

Now, about the cinnamon rolls, here's a neat idea to try. They're called
"Cinnamon Love Knots!"
Make up the same dough, then divide it into 4 equal parts. Divide each part into 8, and roll each of the 8 in between your hands, making a long rope. (About 6" to 8"). (You will have 32 cinnamon rolls when you get done!)Dip that rope into a bowl of melted butter, then into a bowl of cinnamon and sugar, then tie the rope into a knot, tucking ends under. Place on a greased cookie sheet WITH SIDES, and let raise as normal. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, at 350. They are sooo yummy, and don't need icing, for they are covered with cinnamon and sugar! ENJOY!!!! (If you have any questions, you can email me at dickinsonfam@gmail.com.)
Love, Heather =)
