I had a really nice weekend. My parents came up from Alabama and spent Friday evening through Monday morning with us. We basically spent time just visiting. No running around or anything like that. Of course Mom had to take the boys to Walmart so she could get them that toy they NEEDED.
We have a family from our church that hosts a huge Memorial day cookout every year. I had never been before but I told Michael that I wanted to go this year. I had no idea until we pulled into the driveway how big of a deal it really is. There were several hundred people there from various holiness churches in our area. Some even come down from Indianapolis according to what someone told me. It was so much fun! They have several open acres with a big creek on the back of the property. They had horse rides for the kids, a softball game, volleyball game and of course lots and lots of food. My boys pretty much stayed in the creek the whole time.. and at the end of the day brought home a crawdad and a toad(both critters have gone on to their eternal rewards[or maybe eternal rest] after too much handling).
After the cookout, we came home and showered and then went to Michael's parents' home for a fire-pit cookout. That was also a lot of fun. We roasted hot dogs and made S'mores (and also ate lots of other goodies).
I forgot to take my camera though and was feeling pretty irritated about myself when Justin reminded me "Mom, it's not the end of the world". So insteadI am posting a picture of Michael after his most recent hunting adventure. This was a 15 pounder. Not the biggest he has killed, but since with his lawncare and Seamless gutters businesses, he has been too busy to take too much time this year. I cooked it and it was delicious! Tomorrow he is heading out for a day of fishing. My man loves the outdoors (and wearing goofy camo hats) and we reap the benefits by always having plenty of wild, fresh meat.

Nice hat. :]
Kim;
You are an amazing woman to cook things that you first have to pluck! :) My kids think there is such thing as a boneless chicken farm.
Anita... I told Michael that hat reminded me of Gilligan on that old Gilligan's island TV show I used to watch when I was a kid. Though It didn't seem to phase him when I said that.
Julia... I will cook just about anything he wants me to cook AS LONG AS it is COMPLETELY field dressed. I am sure he thinks that when we buy that big organic farm one day that I'll be running around wringing chicken necks. (I just had a really interesting mental picture!) Ummmm... no! If it is ever the case, I will leave that one to the three boys who would probably delight in such a thing...
My hubby loves the outdoors too. He and Joshua only had a few chances to hunt this year and didn't get a turkey. I wasn't so sad about that!
I have an aunt and uncle in the state of Deleware that has a HUGE chicken farm. I have actually seen my aunt wring the necks and then serve the chicken to us for dinner!
Hey Kim!
Just letting you know that I've joined the wonderful cyber-world of bloggers :) I haven't done much to my page yet, but will make it beautiful as time allows!
I've enjoyed reading your posts, and seeing the pics of your lovely family. Michael strikes a pretty cool pose, even if he is my cousin :)
I do hope you don't have to start wringing any chicken necks. Hmmmm....I guess being single ISN'T all bad after all :) I do NOT foresee any chicken necks in my future...married or not!
Love ya girlie, and looking forward to the big cookout on Saturday! Yay for family, food and FUN!(Since I can alliterate so well, maybe I should consider preaching....kidding!)
Arghhhh! I accidentally added a link to your post to my page! Help! I don't know how to undo it...it was really stupid, and I just need to go to bed now!
Sorry...help if you can!
Heh heh....never mind. I accidentally figured it out. I can be dangerous when turned into un-trodden computer pastures...
btw, the pics of the boys are adorable...if slightly dirty :)
Love you guys. And I am really going to bed right away!
I've been known to wring a few chicken necks in my early life time! You know we GA girls! Ha! Sorry I haven't commented in a while...I'm back for a couple more weeks at least! Ha!
Hey Kim,
Thanks for posting on my blog!! I wasn't sure which Matlock you were but I knew that you were either the Dr.s wife or "the other one's" wife. How is that for being clear and sounding goofy?? heehee So once I checked out your blog, I remember exactly who you are. You're the "other one's wife". My biggest problem is trying to keep up with which Matlock kids belong with which Matlock parents. One of these days I'll figure it out. :) I really enjoyed reading your blog and will try to keep up with it every now and then!! Vonnie
