The Great Birthday Cake Disaster

Justin's birthday was on Saturday August 4. I can hardly believe that my cute little bundle has already grown up to be such a handsome big boy!

Here is my birthday boy age 7
(please excuse the red-eye... don't have time to fix it)
Here is a picture of his "treasure chest" birthday cake filled with candy treasures

Here is the "culprit" who pulled the cake off the counter into the floor. This was NOT how he reacted. He cried and said "I broke the cake!"

Here is a picture of the smashed cake after the boys "pilfered" the candy treasures from the inside
(Notice... the only thing left in the middle of the cake is the plastic wrap I had placed there to keep the cake clean and a few lonely straws I used to support the cake). It was so hard to throw that cake away. Even though I allow my boys to eat frog legs (see previous post), we do not eat cake off the kitchen floor.

Here is a picture of how my face might have looked (this is a very bad acting job). Imagine the world "NO-O-O-O-O-O-O" in slow motion... maybe that will help)
This is how I felt, but I made myself comfort the poor remorseful child who felt so bad that he had ruined the cake
Justin was not too upset. He had been asking me all day "Can I look at the cake?. I want to eat a piece of that candy in the middle". So the boys had fun "stripping" the inside of the cake (what was not on the floor) of all the treasures. Thankfully I had made a small lemon cake to go with so he was still able to blow out his candles when we went over to my in-laws' house.

I will end this post for now and next time I plan to add more pictures from Justin's birthday.

That cake is really cute! It looks like you spent forever making it.
:( Too bad it was ruined. Poor Justin...and you! hahha...It seems like stuff like that is always happening at your house.

Oh that's so awful... I'm so sorry. Such a cute idea though, treasure chest.

I'm so sorry! What a disappointment. I would love to have the details of making that cake. Joshua would love that.

You know we're just kidding about the frog legs. I wouldn't be able to cook them but I have tried them at a Chinese restaurant once. They weren't too bad but the thought of what I was eating was too much to handle. We don't think you're yuck, I actually admire you for putting your selfish desires behind you and doing it for your family.

Kelly,
Go to www.familyfun.com and on the home page it will ask you your child's age and what his interests are. They have lots of boy and girl party ideas. I love that site!
Click on "Pirates". When you get to the pirate page, there are at least 3 or 4 cake ideas. I made both Jonathan's pirate ship and this treasure chest cake from that website. Justin is always digging for treasure so this cake was perfect for him. I found all of the jewels and gold coins and ring pops at Dollar Tree. Everything is candy except the gold coins which I got in the party favor section. I just washed them beforehand so I could lay them with the candy.
It's okay to tease me about the frog legs (I knew when I posted those pictures that I'd get some teasing...that's why I did it..hee hee).

Aww...Kim.
Sorry all your hard work was for naught. It WAS a beautiful cake, and I know you spent tons of time on it. But...you took it so good. You're a great mom, even if the pic you posted of yourself is hilarious :)
Love ya, and looking forward to seeing you guys Friday night! Let the fun begin ;)

Bless your heart! At least you have pictures to prove that it did look good before the disaster! :0

Oh well, it was a great cake while it lasted. I think my mom dropped a cake on the floor once. Unlike your boys, I think my brother and I picked off some of the pieces that hadn't touched the floor and chowed down. As I recall, we thought it was pretty cool because the cake was supposed to be for someone else...and we got to eat it!
