Michael's big day

Michael went turkey hunting early this morning and was home by 10:30 with this dude. He weighed in around 22 pounds. He also found a few more morel mushrooms (grin!).
He is going fishing this afternoon (which I hope will be very productive since he is fishing for crappy - my favorite!)
Of course, for him, this is just about a perfect day.

I will have to tell Andrew about your post today. He will love to look at these pictures. Sounds like you'll be having turkey and mushroom gravy soon, with a little "crappy" on the side. :)

AWESOME!!! Now, who gets to clean it?

Woo hoo! He just called and said they "cleaned" 23 fish! Yay!

Turkey with mushroom gravy sounds delicious! We'll be feasting soon!

Michael cleans and skins the turkey but I pull off all that nasty yellow fat. It is very time consuming but definitely worth it.

I plan to "braise" the meat. That is frying the outside and slow cooking the inside.

William Bradford (according to an internet site) said:
A turkey boiled is a turkey spoiled
But a turkey braised
The Lord be praised!

Wow - congratulations Michael! David is in Michigan this week. I'll have to show him the pics when he gets home. I think it's turkey season here too. He probably won't get a chance to hunt though.

I've had wild turkey deep fried and that was really good.
